Shipping a pallet: dimensions, packing and what affects the price
Shipping a pallet with City Sender works like any other shipment: you enter the route, weight and dimensions of the load and see the available transport options with price and estimated delivery time before you book. The form accepts pallets up to 600 kg. City Sender is a Greek comparison and booking platform, with prices up to 60% lower than booking the same service directly with the carrier.
The most common is the euro pallet, 120 × 80 cm. For smaller loads there is the half pallet, 80 × 60 cm. The price depends on the route, weight, dimensions and above all the height of the load, and on whether the pallet can be stacked. A pallet that can't have another placed on top takes up more space in the truck and usually costs more.
Before transport, the load must be stable on the pallet: heavy boxes at the bottom, light ones on top, nothing overhanging the edges. Wrap it in stretch film and, where needed, secure it with straps or banding. Stick a shipping label on at least two sides so it can be seen from every angle.
Think ahead about how the pallet will be loaded and unloaded. If there is no forklift or loading dock at the collection or delivery point, say so before you book, as a truck with a tail lift may be needed. Also say whether delivery is to a shop, warehouse or home, and whether there are time windows or access restrictions.
For pallets within the EU there are no customs duties or import VAT. For countries outside the EU, the load goes through a customs check and needs a commercial invoice with the description, quantity and value of the goods. Import duties, taxes or fees may apply under the destination country's rules, and they are not included in the shipping price.
If you have a question about packing, loading or documents, you talk to a real person on the City Sender team, who replies within 20 minutes during business hours and coordinates the case with the carrier if anything goes wrong.
