Before you ship

Which items are prohibited or not insured?

Short answer

You can't send items such as weapons, flammables, sprays and perfumes, tobacco, drugs, cash or animals. Other items, such as fragile goods, antiques and jewellery, are allowed but aren't covered by the basic insurance. For lithium batteries and alcohol, ask us before booking.

Before you book, check what's in your parcel. Some items can't be shipped at all. Others can be shipped, but at your own risk and without insurance cover.

What am I not allowed to send?

  • Weapons, ammunition, explosives and radioactive materials.
  • Flammable and hazardous materials, poisons, sprays (aerosols), and perfumes and cosmetics that contain alcohol.
  • Tobacco and tobacco products.
  • Narcotic and psychotropic substances, including cannabis and its derivatives.
  • Cash and negotiable securities.
  • Animals and animal products.
  • Items that need temperature control, and medical samples.
  • Human remains and urns.
  • Counterfeit, stolen or illegal goods, and pornographic material.
  • Documents and items that can't be replaced, e.g. personal letters, stamps or lottery tickets.
  • Anything that could damage other shipments.

If you send a prohibited item

The courier may refuse or return the shipment, or deal with it as it sees fit. All costs are paid by the sender. The shipment isn't covered by insurance, even if you've bought extra cover.

What do I need to ask about before booking?

  • Lithium batteries (mobile phones, laptops, power banks): whether they're accepted depends on the courier and the service, and an MSDS may be required. Air services have strict restrictions.
  • Alcohol (e.g. wine, tsipouro): within the EU, contact us first. Outside the EU, it isn't allowed for private individuals.
  • Medicines: only allowed with a prescription.

What's allowed but not insured?

You can send the items below, but they aren't covered by the shipment's basic insurance:

  • Fragile items, such as glass, porcelain and mirrors.
  • Antiques, artworks and jewellery.
  • Items of high or sentimental value.
  • Plants and flowers.
  • Used electronics, or electronics without their original packaging.
  • Tables without a wooden crate.
  • Musical instruments without a hard case or suitable protection.
  • Data and files on electronic devices.

Jewellery

You can cover jewellery with extra insurance, which you choose when booking by declaring its value.

How can I increase my cover?

Every shipment includes basic insurance cover, shown under "Details" for the service. If your parcel is worth more, you can add extra insurance when booking, for an additional charge. Compensation for damage or loss is assessed by the courier or the insurance company. See how to make a compensation claim.
